WE NEED YOUR HELP TO PASS AN ORDINANCE to provide basic protection and improved notification when the Health Department elects to spray.

Here are three actions you can take to help (in the order of importance):

1. E-mail all 40 council members in 3-5 minutes. It is easy!
Click on the link below, pull down the menu that says "Choose Council Member" and select "Entire Metro Council" and then type your message.
E-mail METRO COUNCIL MEMBERS

USE THESE TALKING POINTS WHEN WRITING OR CALLING:
1. Please support BL. 2007-1389 to provide consistent policies, improved spraying notification and basic protection for citizens when the Health Department elects to spray pesticides!
2. This ordinance takes no authority away from the Health Department to protect citizens from mosquito-borne illnesses.
3. We need this ordinance passed now because the Health Department could spray at any time.

TIPS:
Always give your name, street address, and phone number. Be polite and respectful. Let them know they represent you.

You can read about the ordinance here and send council members this link so they can read more about it. Share your own thoughts and personal stories. (Examples: Do you have serious health concerns and need a buffer? Did you receive notification or a phone call before they sprayed your neighborhood? Have you been sprayed when you were on the streets of Nashville?)

2. After you've emailed the entire council, take 3-5 minutes to call your councilperson. It can make a BIG difference to talk to them. Download a pdf file with all council member phone numbers here. You can also copy your email and send it by US postal service for extra impact.

If you do not know who your council person is, click here.

3. Take 3-10 minutes and call up one to three at-large council representatives (Neighbors, Tucker, and Dread). They represent you too and we need their vote.

FEELING REALLY MOTIVATED TO SHARE YOUR STORY?

Call more council members ask them for their support. Remember if you speak with any council member running for at-large seats, mayor or vice mayor ask them to support this ordinance. Also, raise your concern about how the Health Department has operated their mosquito control program without respect for the pesticide they are spraying and the risks. This ordinance takes away no power from the Health Department. It DOES require them to provide basic protection and improved notification when they spray - this should be everyone's right.
